The public involvement program will be conducted in accordance with Illinois Department of Transportation and local agency coordination, leading to outcomes that deliver a safer transportation network for all users. A stakeholder is anyone who is interested in or could be affected by the project and has a stake in its outcome.

 

Stakeholders for this project may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

  • Residents, businesses, and system users

  • Elected officials and community leaders

  • Transportation agencies

  • First Responders

  • Transportation system users and related interest organizations

  • Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs)

  • Community organizations

  • Railroad companies

  • Universities

  • Utilities/telecommunications

  • Others outside the study area with an interest in the project


The identification of stakeholders will be completed with recommendations of local community leaders, municipal, county and MPO representatives and staff. All individuals and organizations expressing interest in the project will be added to the project mailing/email list and will be able to participate in the process through various public outreach opportunities.

The Safety Committees provide leadership commitment, input and feedback through the development process, assist and provide resources to implement the CSAP, and monitor progress.

WHAT ARE THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
FOR THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MEMBERS?

  • Engagement and collaboration are important elements to a successful safety plan. By participating as a member of the safety committee, you are representing the communities you serve and sharing their safety priorities, needs, and challenges.
     

  • Safety committee responsibilities:

    • Provide input into the CSAP and make final decisions

    • Review CSAP and interim deliverables

    • Meets every 2-3 months (3 in-person meetings combined with the stakeholder engagement workshops and 2 virtual 1 hour meetings)

    • Assists with development and implementation of the CSAP
